A profession for the benefit of children

Currently, I hold an associates in Human Services. Along the way many of my classes have a focus on children and families. Children have always been a priority in my life and I want to find a way to benefit my community by serving the children and families in it. I will graduate with an Interdisciplinary Degree June of 2027, with minors in Psychology and Sociology/Anthropology. Societal institutions and mental health variables have a prominence in my local community and with these two minors I can ensure I have a wide base of knowledge in both of these areas in hopes to be able to provide maximum benefits to the people I end up serving professionally. 

I continue to serve my community through ministry and volunteer programs. I have been teaching Sunday School for almost 20 years. I have worked my way up through that department and I am now the Children’s Ministry Director. I also serve in many other ministries. While these may appear as “just church” I know that the skills developed will prove beneficial in a future workplace as well. The organization of adults and children, teaching and classroom management, dedication, flexibility, developing and working within systems, all play a part in my ministry role and will benefit professional roles as well. 

I serve my community outside of the church as well. In March of 2026 I was sworn in as a member of the Citizens Review Board. I received specialized training and now I play a part of the judicial system and help ensure that children and families receive what is needed and required while children are in the care of the Department of Human Services. This puts me in a place of knowledge and understanding that I can turn around and use to benefit any helping work I pursue in the future.
